Clever Devices today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Hitachi Rail, bringing together two organizations united by a deep commitment to helping transit agencies operate more efficiently, sustainably, and compassionately for the communities they serve.
For more than 30 years, Clever Devices has been dedicated to partnering closely with transit agencies, listening to their challenges, innovating side by side, and delivering technology that makes service more reliable and riders’ experiences more accessible and enjoyable. With a global team of talented employees, the company has grown by staying true to a mission rooted in service, trust, and long‑standing customer relationships.
As Clever Devices becomes part of Hitachi Rail, our mission gains a broader global platform. Hitachi Rail’s extensive international presence, deep digital mobility expertise, and long-standing commitment to building sustainable transportation systems will enable Clever Devices and MAIOR to further scale their innovations, reach new communities, and accelerate the development of next-generation multimodal solutions for existing and future clients.
This acquisition represents more than a strategic transaction. It reflects a shared belief that public transportation is essential to the communities it serves, and that technology should empower agencies, uplift riders, and make mobility safer, cleaner, and more connected.
Integrating Clever Devices Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technologies and planning and scheduling solutions with Hitachi Rail’s HMAX for Mobility platform will form a unified ecosystem of real-time data, fleet intelligence, operations, and passenger-focused tools. Together, the combined organization will deliver agencies worldwide the ability to manage their bus, rail, and multi-modal networks holistically with greater clarity, capability, and confidence.
